Self Portrait / the Archive - present
Self Portrait explores memory, time, and photography as a kind of time machine. Pairing childhood photographs of me taken by my dad in San Diego with landscapes I’ve encountered through travel, the work brings together different moments and places across my life. Through my dad’s images, I revisit a younger version of myself, while my own photographs reflect the person I have become and the places that have shaped me. The juxtaposition of these images blurs the boundaries between past and present, allowing distant moments to coexist. The work reflects on how photography allows us to return to places and versions of ourselves that exist only in memory. It also becomes a way to connect with my dad through his perspective as a photographer, creating a shared visual timeline between father and child. Ultimately, Self Portrait considers how our identities are shaped by time, place, and the images we carry with us.
